Paul Molesky will be hosting a wood firing event on Saturday November 15th. He has offered for members to come watch and learn about the wood firing process.
Participants should arrive anytime between 10am and 1pm and bring their own beverages and a chair.
Paul Molesky will be teaching attendees how to make their own paintbrush out of bamboo and various types of hair. This is a great opportunity to learn a new skill and make something that is functional as well as sentimental.
You may choose to bring your own hair to use for your paintbrush, it can be human or animal hair. Paul recommends the hair you bring be 3-4 inches long. If you prefer to not bring your own hair to use, that's okay, we can provide you with some!
This event is open to Syracuse Ceramic Guild members only.
Pottery and Hot Arts Fair is our largest event of the year! This huge show features the work of our Guild members, as well as free pottery making with kids, and opportunities for you to glaze your own work and have it fired right there in our Raku kiln to take home.

Syracuse Ceramic Guild members are creating and donating small dishes that the residents of elder communities can paint and keep for themselves or gift to a loved one. The Raku Picnic and Firing will be held at the VIEW Arts Center in Old Forge the weekend of June 21 – 22. We have the weekend; however, the actual Raku Firing and Picnic will be Saturday June 21.
As most of you recall, and many helped to make this happen, the Raku Kiln was transported from Cazenovia Stone Quarry Art Park to the View Arts Center last year. Much labor and love went into the disassemble, the move, the reassemble and added setup and maintenance of this Kiln. Raku glazes will be available at the picnic site.
ArtHouse at the WareHouse – In addition to our Raku Picnic, that you will want to plan as part of your visit, is to stop in and visit Sabrina’s ArtHouse at the WareHouse. Sabrina’s lovely gift store of beautiful artists made items, many from our Guild members, is only 15 minutes away from the View Art Center. It will be well worth stopping in for some shopping or just a visit.
Just a few things to note as you start planning your attendance –
· Start making your pieces (with Raku clay)
· Bring a chair
· Bring a dish to pass
· Date: June 21, 2025 (Saturday)
· Time: TBD – Start time estimated 12:00, End time when all pots are fired.
More information to follow as we get closer to the June date.
Addresses:
· View Arts Center - 3273 NY-28, Old Forge, NY 13420

Paul Molesky is graciously hosting a Wood Firing event at his home this March. **Actual time is TBD—time in this event posting is a place holder.
Wood firing is a pottery technique that uses wood as fuel to fire pottery in a kiln. The process produces unique colors, textures, and glaze patterns on the pottery. The wood fire kiln is subject to heat, smoke, ash, and volatile minerals from the burning wood. The atmosphere inside the kiln shifts between reduction and oxidation. The wood ash melts and travels with the flame, touching the pots.
Directions and rules to participate.
1. Before the March wood firing, make your pots with high fire clay (ex: Bmix Wood)
2. Pots must be bisque fired ahead of March 1 (glaze date) by you.
3. March 1 (Saturday) is set for the Glaze your pot day. Paul has the glazes. Time TBD.
4. When the kiln is filled, a date will be set for the firing.
5. Participating people are required to attend and help with the firing.
6. Be cautious of your pots and glazing them – if the kiln shelf is damaged by your pot, you are responsible for cleaning it or possibly replacing it.
7. Suggested ware for wood firing - vase, mug, cylinder types. Avoid flat ware such as plates, these most likely will run glaze onto the shelf.
